Quality Assurance
ISO 9001
This commitment to quality started in 1975 with the founders, Sharif Mafi and
Jack Trench. They developed a "fresh approach" for the custom design
and manufacture of high-speed turboexpanders to meet the demanding requirements
of our Customers in the natural gas processing industry. In 1992 we expanded the
Mafi-Trench (MTC) quality management system to include certification to ISO-9001.
This international standard has provided a solid foundation for the Total Quality
Program at MTC.
MTC Management considers the ISO-9001 certification more than just a certificate
on the wall. A full-time Quality Assurance Manager has been appointed by the President
as the Management Representative responsible for the quality system throughout
the Company. All MTC Associates have a responsibility to work within the ISO-9001
framework, to constantly improve processes, to ensure that our procedures match
the actual process, to exceed our Customer’s expectations, to meet our commitments,
and improve the quality and reliability of turboexpanders on a continuous basis.
Several tools are used to drive this continual improvement effort at MTC.
- Our ISO-9001 auditors, Det Norske Veritas, audit our facility on an
annual basis and provide an independent assessment of our processes
and procedures.
- Quality plans are generated and design reviews are conducted for
the machine and system on each project to ensure that special Customer
requirements have been incorporated into the design.
- MTC auditors conduct internal audits of our entire ISO-9001 system
on an annual basis.
- All MTC Associates attend an ISO-9001 orientation to make sure they
are aware of their responsibilities within the quality management system.
- Special programs (Six Sigma, e.g., Six
Sigma's Missing Link[876 KB] Small Companies See the Money,
Quality Observations and Customer Satisfaction Index) are evaluated
on a regular basis to check the effectiveness of the MTC Total Quality
Program. These programs are also in response to ISO-9001: 2000, which
includes more focus on Continual Improvement and Customer Satisfaction.
- The capabilities of suppliers and sub-suppliers are also verified
on a regular basis. A special file is maintained for critical suppliers
to ensure that they maintain a suitable level of service to support
MTC processes and projects.
- A comprehensive computer database for the calibration of instruments
is maintained to ensure accurate test results and interchangeability
of parts.
