EC-3.0 Bare Machine and
Spare Rotating Assembly
Shipped April 2006

Not only was this my first experience with Mafi-Trench, but also with turbo-expanders in general. I could not have asked for a better relationship with a vendor than the one that I had with MTC. In order to meet our overall schedule requirements, MTC worked with us in an unusual way. MTC provided the turbo-expander and engineering support, while we generated the package design and fabrication. I was very pleased and impressed with not only the engineering group, but the shop personnel during testing, and the startup assistance at site. Please commend everyone at MTC that supported Presson-Enerflex in our efforts. This was a team effort!!! The machine’s performance is excellent, and we have received nothing but positive feedback from the site.

I thank you for your support, and look forward to working with you again in the future.

Expander Upgrade
Aderklaa Cryogenic LPG Plant Site

OMV Austria operates a cryogenic LPG plant in Aderklaa Austria. The turboexpander was originally supplied by Rotoflow Corporation and was first commissioned in 1986.

In 1997 Linde-AG was retained by OMV to rerate the plant for nearly 200% of original design flow. Through the competitive bidding process, Mafi-Trench Corporation was selected for the rerate work. Additionally, Mafi-Trench was requested to incorporate improved reliability features into the Rotoflow design. In 1998 the rerated expander was successfully commissioned by Mafi-Trench. All performance criteria was satisfied and the plant has been in successful operation to date.

Recently, OMV had an urgent requirement to replace a set of inlet guide vanes which had been damaged during maintenance. Inlet guide vane delivery periods can often exceed 10 weeks due to the special treatment processes required; however Mafi-Trench was able to supply the new parts in only four days!

OMV Austria is very satisfied with the upgraded expander and the support provided by Mafi-Trench.

EC-OD Turboexpander Off-design Unit Operation Extension Software

We are in the process of purchasing a license for the MTC/RCE EC-OD software. We have been using the program for the last couple weeks and it is fantastic! We've been able to match expander speed, discharge temperature, compressor discharge pressure and temperature to within a few degrees and pounds. It's a real breakthrough in steady state simulation and will help us enormously in our upcoming performance testing program and into operation with troubleshooting and performance checks. I would consider this a must for any simulation involving a turbo-expander.

We have had a great experience so far in the first year with our MTC turboexpander. The after sales service has been superb. MTC\'s responsiveness in resolving our early start-up issues and troubleshooting allowed us to progress the project and keep it on schedule.

Our unit works so smooth, the only way I can tell it is running is by the tachometer.

One of our India based Field Service Representatives, Anil Jain, was assigned the task of commissioning our Customer\'s turboexpander equipment at their plant location in So. Australia. We are pleased to share the following testimonial.

I would like to thank you, MTC, and Anil Jain for being so patient and understanding during his visit and commissioning. Anil has had to deal with many delays, and a permit system that has cost us a lot of lost time. Anil has been extremely professional, helpful, and polite. Anil has provided several training sessions on the turboexpander equipment, which were very sucessful. His knowledge and passion for the turboexpander is fantastic. I have had nothing but positive feedback and look forward to working with Anil Jain again in the near future.

NRC IATS Project
Ottawa, Canada
Frame EC-6.0
Shipped: April 2003

Mafi-Trench began their site support to Aiolos at one of the most demanding phases of the NRC IATS Project in Ottawa, Canada. The dedication and determination of MTC’s personnel was crucial to the overall success of completing this project, an inlet air treatment system for the gas turbine engine test facility.

To name a few, Duane Bergmann set the tempo of operations, and instilled the right team spirit for MTC’s suppliers. Bart Neidrauer’s energy and enthusiasm was noted, during skid startup, training and commissioning assistance. Field Service Technicians Mike Brown and Al Alcala worked very well under duress during the technical surprises we encountered. From Santa Maria, Brian Humbles was instrumental in effectively organizing the engineering and logistics requirements through startup and commissioning, and during the impressive recovery from the material failure that we experienced during commissioning. Hasan Adam is to be commended for his professional ability troubleshooting the complex controls-related issues throughout the project. Your Project group’s assistance and hospitality were also much appreciated.

Overall, your staff assumed leadership, professionally regrouped during serious snags, and developed contingency plans to keep the project moving. This displayed true grit and is a sure sign of an organization based on sound leadership.

MTC Job 440

In addition to the great maintenance support that MTC always gives in our gas plant in Algeria for turboexpander repairs, we had also been invited to supervise and assist in repair and testing activities at the MTC workshop located in Santa Maria, California, USA. During this most recent visit we really appreciated MTC’s great welcome and wonderful care and consideration to all of us. We can not thank you enough for your help and patience. You can be sure that what ever we would try to give you in return, can never be compared to what you fully did for us.

We went through a very useful demonstration of the inspection and evaluation results of the various parts of two complete rotating assemblies with Mafi-Trench’s Senior Engineer, Mr. Ralph Johnson. Also we visited the different application services in the workshop and we greatly benefited from the training, which included documentation and in-depth informative explanations of the turboexpander operating, troubleshooting, auxiliaries, control systems and process behaviors. This included instructions on how to keep our machines in good and safe running order, with less cost. Our thanks to Mr. John Peranteaux for his excellent training capabilities. We want to thank the rest of the Service Operations and Engineering staff for their guidance. We look forward to going back to your facility to participate in the testing activities, meanwhile, be assured that we fully trust your services to recondition our machines’ rotating assemblies and appreciate your technical support.

As usual, Mafi-Trench has met all of my expections to date. The shop, personnel and quality are without equal in my experience. The unit was ready for shipment exactly on schedule, as usual, and although we have not started the unit, its performance during the in-house testing exceeded our expections. I certainly look forward to another successful project with Mafi-Trench in the future.

Your Project Manager did an outstanding job on this project. He responded to every inquiry (regardless of how trivial), promptly and courteously, in an otherwise trying and difficult project.

The Mafi-Trench expander-compressor packages were one of the bright spots in the project. Those packages presented the fewest problems for the Project Team from request for quotation through delivery.

Nam Tec Grootegast Turbo-expander Project
The Netherlands
Frame ECM-2
Shipped: June 2002

The turbo-expander we purchased at Mafi-Trench was the first utilized by NAM. Needless to say we, as well as our client, were extremely focused on this order.

I must say that from the engineering stage, up to and including the delivery at NAM’s production location, Mafi-Trench showed excellent expertise in their field of business. Also, technically as well, in the area of documentation. This was not always easy because of the pressure equipment directive now being active in Europe.

All together Mafi-Trench managed to get the turbo-expander delivered on time and completely certified at our client’s production site.

Furthermore, Mafi-Trench showed to be very flexible in maintenance assistance.

As you can see from my 99% rating on your Customer Satisfaction survey, from the project’s point of view, MTC took care of a great job. MTC was actively involved and willing to solve any item that was raised and required follow-up.

For future projects, where a turboexpander-compressor is required I will actively suggest to make use of MTC.

The MTC proposal was complete and the job was executed on-time from the USA.

During the testing in California we had a very good stay. Hasan Adam, from the Engineering staff, was present at the testing in the Siemens office, and Hasan did a great job.

We are writing to express our satisfaction/gratitude for the support and technical advice given in respect of the above project.

As you are aware, we were committed to completing this major project within a short time frame, and as such were obliged to pass on a very tight engineering and delivery schedule to our Suppliers. The cooperation we received from Mafi-Trench in helping us to meet our commitments was very much appreciated, particularly during the latter stages of the project. With regard to product quality, the exacting standards of this project were more than satisfied and we are pleased to confirm the supply was completed without any discrepancy.

Once again, thank you for your cooperation and support during this project and we look forward to working with you again in the not too distant future.
