Expander-Power Shaft

The expander-powershaft configuration is used in some processes where the power produced by the expander is insufficient to provide all of the process compression. For example, an EPS unit can be coupled directly to a process compressor that is coupled to another prime mover (motor or turbine). The power produced by the expander therefore reduces the power required from the prime mover. In this way, the expander provides both refrigeration and power recovery.
