Maintaining adequate spares is essential to successful long-term operation of any piece of rotating equipment. Mafi-Trench can support you in determining the best balance between excessive inventory and unnecessary exposure to risk.

Spares Recommendations

Normally a turboexpander may operate for many years without servicing; however, certain spare parts should always be kept on hand in case of emergency. Recommended spares fall into several categories:

• Soft goods for the turboexpander. These include gasket sets, o-ring kits, and Teflon seals. Soft goods should always be kept available.
• Disposable filter elements for lube oil and seal gas filters.
• Support skid spares. These include repair kits for critical skid-mounted valves, actuators, regulators, and pumps. It should also include spare electrical components as appropriate (fuses, light bulbs, etc.).

A spare rotating assembly is also a critical part of a complete spares inventory. The spare rotating assembly includes all of the rotating parts of the expander. If the installed unit is damaged, the spare rotating assembly can be installed in a few days rather than weeks. This dramatically reduces down time and lost production.
